Bed protection around offshore wind turbines

Xbloc for offshore wind

The Xstream blocks can be applied as bed protection around offshore wind turbines. Xstream blocks are small size Xblocks (30 to 40 cm height) which can be produced in an industrial process. They can be placed on the seabed in bulk, without filter layers. This can be done e.g. by orange peel grab. Their interlocking parameters and high porosity make the blocks effective in stabilizing the seabed around structures such as bridge piers and  wind turbines. The porosity of the system also creates a shelter for marine life.

Presently we are investigating the possibilities to deposit these small blocks at the seabed to prevent excessive scouring around offshore structures. No filter layer is foreseen between the bed and the Xstream blocks.
