Last summer 32 special blocks were placed on the dike. These blocks are made of various innovative concrete mixes which all reduce the carbon footprint of the material.
The first inspections show that all the blocks behave well in the marine environment. The trials are performed to gain experience with these new materials. Materials that perform well during 10 years of monitoring, will be allowed for future projects with a lifetime of 100 years. The efficient shape of the XblocPlus (Levvelbloc) already reduces the concrete consumption and the CO2 footprint by 56%. The objective is to enable future projects to further reduce their footprint.
