Cotonou, Benin

To counteract coastal erosion, new groynes were constructed east of the port of Cotonou, Benin. Both Xbloc armoured and rock armoured groynes were applied. The design has been done by Roche from Canada. Construction is done by Boskalis. The Xbloc project in Cotonou is the fifth project where Boskalis is involved in the placement of Xbloc armour units.

The Xbloc groynes have a main armour of 4 m3 Xblocs. The moulds of the Xbloc project at Pointe Noire will be re-used. 3D physical model testing has been carried out at LEM in Algiers, Tunisia.
