Sumburgh airport is located on Shetland island, Scotland, UK. The shore protection is armoured by Xblocs of 6 m3 size. The design has been prepared by RPS in Belfast.

Sumburgh is the third Xbloc project designed by RPS. 3D physical model testing was carried out by Queens University in Belfast. Xbloc casting started in spring 2013.

The contractor is McLaughlin & Harvey and the Xblocs were placed by Ashleigh Contracts. Ashleigh Contracts also did the placement of the Xblocs for the Port Oriel and Caladh Mor projects.
